Maypoles & "Merrie Recreation"

I've just posted a guest blog on 17th c. Maypoles over at Hoydens & Firebrands. This is a wonderful blog of 17th c. history, hosted by five first-rate historical fiction writers who set their books primarily in that time period. Check it out!
By the way – despite the numerous descriptions of Maypoles and the accompanying bawdy celebrations, this subdued little print is the only known 17th c. illustration of Maypole festivities. Perhaps all the artists were too busy celebrating themselves?
